As I did some Theraband stretches in one room today, little did I know that Jake was tearing open a package of Rit dye he had found among Rachel’s art supplies in her room. It would have to be SCARLET!
After I figured out what he had been up to, I tried my best to pick up the dye crystals on the light-colored carpet. I should have gone downstairs and gotten the vacuum cleaner. But like an idiot I grabbed a wet washcloth, only to see the rug turn a nice shade of deep pink.
Several washcloths later, I resorted to a Clorox solution, which didn’t completely take out the color, but made it a lot less vivid.
You can still see color on his right front leg. I imagine his mouth is red on the inside too. If Rit dye is toxic, it doesn’t seem to be having an immediate effect on the culprit.
JAKE!!!!
ReplyDeleteProbably thought it was koolaide!
Oh no! Of all the things he could have gotten into-- Rit makes a "color remover" product. I don't know if it would be any more effective in taking the dye out of the carpet than the clorox, but might be worth a try.
ReplyDeleteKelly -- I think he was trying to tell me he wants MORE of his new gourmet food, which he gobbles down with no hesitation.
ReplyDeleteTerry -- I thought about the color remover, but didn't want to take the original color out of the carpet. I just checked and it actually looks amazingly good considering the chemical onslaught this morning!
Stained is the new black?
ReplyDeleteSorry, love. :-)
Well, at least Jake is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteHe's lucky he's adorable!
ReplyDeleteAnd you couldn't have had a scarlet colored carpet to begin with? Of course not!
ReplyDeleteLiLu -- Actually dogs are color blind, so I can't fault him for his color choice!
ReplyDeleteWB -- I'm starting to think he was just faking sick, although he is still eating grass.
Gewels -- Yes, he's gotten away with a lot in his 11 years because he is a cute dog.
Gary -- That would be correct; no scarlet carpets in our house!
My neighbor had a similar experience with her dog biting into a ball point pen. Same results!
Of course it was scarlet! If you're going to mess up, mess big.
ReplyDeleteTime for hardwood floors! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see the inside of his mouth!
An update: Unfortunately this is one of those incidents that refuses to quit. When the cleaning people came yesterday, they managed to leave a huge red spot on the upstairs hall carpeting, probably in the process of emptying my daughter's trash can, where I had unfortunately put the opened dye. Tomorrow the carpet repair people are coming to do surgery on our upstairs carpeting. Luckily I found some spare pieces of carpeting in the attic.
