The conversation the night before had gone something like this:
B: I haven’t gotten you anything for our anniversary.
D: I haven’t either.
B: Not even a card.
D: Me neither.
B: Let’s just agree on dinner, no cards, no presents, OK?
D: Sure.
So that’s what it was. No pomp and circumstance. Just a quiet dinner with good friends in a small restaurant on Capitol Hill. Pear salad with walnuts and blue cheese, wild boar with crab meat, and the most scrumptious chocolate dessert ever. A bottle of chilled white wine. It was indeed the perfect way to remember how many years we’ve spent together.
We toasted to “another 32" and realized we would all be in our 90's! But then, we just may make it. Who knows?
Congratulations to you both for your still growing love after 32 years and your good sense about how to celebrate the occasion. Here's to the next 32 years may they, too, be happy and healthy!

ReplyDeleteMy folks just celebrated #55, so they are on their way to your stated #64.
In my 13 years of torturing Mr. R., I am finding that anniversaries mean less than waking up each day being able to harass and annoy the one I LOVE for that day!
I am so happy that you reached the belly-button lint anniversary!
(You do make a handsome couple!)
love, Kellyann
Congratulations

Hey...didn't I see some kind of Cake Website @ Steve's?

You celebrated with chocolate - what more is needed! Congratulations on your anniversary. Another 32 should be - erm - a piece of cake?
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing to share your life with someone - how wonderful that you honored the most important thing about this anniversary, one another. Congratulations on your continued happiness through the inevitable ups and downs, trials and dramas, and above all else love and respect. Amazing. I raise my glass (of iced tea) to you both.
ReplyDeletePauline -- What celebratory meal would be complete without chocolate?!
ReplyDeleteGary -- Matching your toast with my raised water glass, thank you!
This post makes me smile. maybe it is the two of you in the smiling picture. Maybe it is the love that comes through the words. Wither way, I'm smiling at you and congratulating you on doing things right.
ReplyDeleteThat would be "either" way . . . but I'm sure you knew that, right?
ReplyDeleteRuthD -- I sort of like "wither way"! :) We have had our ups and downs over the years, but there is definitely a lot of love between us.

Mouse -- I think the reason we could justify no frills on the actual day of was the fact that we knew we were off to NYC on Monday. We're really rather practical people, but at least we're both that way...
ReplyDeleteHappy belated anniversary!! Here's to celebrating the 64th with chocolate cake too.
ReplyDeletethis is very belated, but I'm happy for you. I love the photo. Happy Happy.
ReplyDeleteMy late parents were together 36 years, and I met my one and only 27 years ago. We are still blissful. Funny how it works out for some couples.
