Turning a Profit on Poop

As we were eating breakfast this morning, my husband read an article from the Post about a woman who makes more than $100K a year removing dog waste from people’s yard. No joke! She scoops poop for a living and makes a killing doing it.

Debbie Frazier started this business in Albuquerque 22 years ago and is not the only one making big profits these days around the country. The Association of Professional Animal Waste Specialists now shows 127 members nationwide. She lauds her job as an opportunity to be outside all day petting dogs, claiming that dogs are a gift from God. I can’t argue with that.

Frazier says her son used to joke about her business when he was younger, but now he plans to take it over when she retires. Claiming not to care who makes fun of her, she says she laughs all the way to the bank.

Thinking about that feeling of squish when you step on a concealed clump of dog poop, I think I’ll Google to see if there are any APAWS members in this area. Our yard is always like a field of land mines just waiting for an unsuspecting foot.

What an amazing living she is making! Around where I live, in Boston, most people scoop the poop because of the laws here. I guess her business would only work in places where there are no laws like that.

I think her business is in people's yards, which are not governed by laws. It is really a sign of decadence and too much disposable income when you even for a minute think seriously about hiring someone to "vacuum" your yard for dog poop.

There are hundreds of us out here making a good living doing this!
This is my 4th year at it, and it sure beats my old cubicle.

Most of the work is residential, but there are some of us that do commercial work only, condos and apartments and such. Even if there are scooping laws, some folks don't respect them.

Disposable income, sure. Decadence? Not really. People hire maids, mobile oil change and auto detail folks, etc.

Why not us? :-)

OL -- You are so good! And so must your dogs be...

Jeff -- I must confess that we pay people to do everything else for us, so why not clean up the dog poop in our yard? And we have plenty from 2 big labs. Know anyone in "the business" in the DC area?

Well, I've never heard of that here in Canada but it wouldn't surprise me. I probably wouldn't be applying for that job but obviously lots of people don't mind doing it for the good $$. I'm still chuckling at the pun "disposable income"....with my silly sense of humour, I still think this refers to the poopscooper's job remuneration!! (No one else was thinking that?! Okay, my husband's right..I am a little off centre!)

It's a ground floor opportunity...
Business is picking up...
Business stinks, it's a cr*ppy job... etc. etc. :-)

The phrase "entremanure" is actually
federally trademarked by a friend of mine.

Yes, they're in Canada, too. Need one?
