I Confess -- I'm Hooked!
I am one of those people who rants against television and claims never to be able to watch anything consistently. But that’s all changed. I am finally hooked. And tonight is my show.
For years now, my husband has been begging me to watch “24” with him and I have been saying “Why do I need all that violence?”
But he lured me into watching the double-episode season opener and I have been hooked ever since.
It’s a fast-paced show, even though all 24 episodes cover a mere 24 hours. But it doesn’t seem to be as obnoxiously violent or loud as in previous seasons. I have actually learned who all the characters are. I love the good guys, hate the bad guys, and often try to guess whether certain characters are good guys or bad guys.
It’s a progressive show. Already “24” has had a black President and the current President is a woman. Did they get the message long before the American public did?
My only other excitement today was lunch out with neighborhood friends. So I have been fixated on the fact that my show is on tonight. We will get to find out if the bad guy’s girlfriend gets the ax. We will get an update on the President’s husband who is in surgery for a gunshot wound to the chest. We will learn a little more about the infiltration of the government. But it is a sure thing that Jack Bauer will save the day (or at least the hour) yet again. I love Jack Bauer! And it remains to be seen whether he will fall in love with the beautiful FBI agent Renee with whom he is currently working. Is there even room for a love affair in a brief 24 hours?

let me know when you get hooked on monk......that's my show.....
I watched the first season but haven't really watched since. I do love Jack Bauer. I'm not sure why I stopped! I guess it's just too easy to lose the plot with a week or two off.
So glad you have finally seen the light! And, I think Jack and Renee will be tempted at some point. Sure hope so because current beau Larry is a moron!
About 3 years ago I had a terrible flu. The kids had given me seasons 1 and 2 of this show. I loved watching it this way............I basically watched the whole first season in about 2 days and the second season the following days. I loved not having to wait!
:)
I once tried to watch this, but couldn't get into it! maybe it's worth another try?? :-)
Hi Barbara,
I'm thinking your progress is .. progressing and love reading your excitement about Jack Bauer saving the day. A show I never attempted - it's bad enough that I'm 'forced' to watch American Idol with the kids. I used to love House and The Office is still a favorite .... but I can't keep up with all the cable switches in my life: television changes, program timing.
Sigh. Upstairs for a book and a nap! I do like buying entire seasons for my son in hopes that I can watch along with him ... sneaky I know!
Keep me posted on the state of the world's dire consequences. And I hope lunch with the girls was just as exhilarating ;)

I can't cope without NCIS I'm passionate about Gibbs.
Before that is was every episode ever of the West Wing.
Only ever watched the first series of 24 and how long ago was that now.
xx
My former spouse was a "24" fan and to be companionable I watched along the first couple of seasons. I can still hear Jack's "facing-the-bad-guy" snarl...I've actually been without much TV for about four years, now, and confess I rarely miss it! (But I do watch a TON of rented movies...!) :-)

Ah, so you like the torture show. Over the past 5 or 10 years, the only program I can think of that I tried to watch when it initially aired each week was "Mad Men." If I had HBO, I probably would have done ditto for "The Wire."
I knew Jack Bauer when I worked for the Agency.
Taught him everything he knows.
I had to quit the business...gammy leg and all.
Hey barb!
Mouse -- If I can tolerate another hour of TV, I'll check out Monk.
Kristin -- I'm sure 24 is synopsized for anyone who misses a week or 52!
DD -- Thanks for helping me waste my time; oops, that is, be entertained!
Kate -- I remember that season of the flu that just stayed on. You were sick for weeks. You were probably able to watch seasons 1 and 2 several times.
Karen -- You might find it more interesting now that there's an African connection in the show! Sengala is a fictitious African country breeding terrorists.
RDM -- There are only so many shows a person can watch, right?
Lunch with the girls was the best part of my day!
Fire Byrd -- I did watch a few West Wing episodes. I loved that President.
Anon -- Rented movies are definitely higher class!
Media Concepts -- Glad to hear from you. I did watch Mad Men on your recommendation, but it didn't stick the way 24 has. Maybe it was just time for a little violence.
Bulletholes -- I should have known you were in "the business" at one point in your career. You are indeed a man of many talents!
