To everything there is a season

This morning we learned that the crazed 88-year-old whtie supremecist had been seen lurking around Temple Micah earlier in the week. An ANC member had approached him and quickly concluded he was not quite right.

We mentally processed this information and collectively wondered what would have happened if he had not opened fire the guard at the Holocaust Museum on Wednesday, but instead had saved his hate crime for the Shabbat service at Temple Micah, coming in to blast into the sanctuary full of worshippers.

We prayed for the dead guard and his family and thanked God we had been spared. We looked gratefully to the young guard stationed at our front door and felt sad that it was necessary for him to be there.

Our special song came from verses in Ecclesiastes:

Turn, Turn, Turn

Chorus:
To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season, turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

A time to love, a time to hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time of peace: I swear it’s not too late.

Wow. What a discovery. I'm so glad that nothing happened at your temple and sorry that anything happened at all.

it's true - there does seem to be a time for everything and everything's turn keep coming around. Glad your congregation was spared... what a scary near miss.

It's frightening when a sick murderer is in your neighborhood. I'm reminded of the sniper that was lurking around our area for a while several years ago. I'm glad they caught the guy so quickly on Wednesday, although I wish there had been some way to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Goodness, I'm so sad for the guard's family, I'm sure this came as such a shock to them. It's way too close to home for anyone's comfort. You are all in my prayers.

Kristin -- Glad and sorry are the operative words.

Pauline -- I hate to think there is a time to kill, but am comforted by the fact there is also a time to heal.

Gary -- Almost too powerful for any words at all.

Cyndy -- Much like the sniper, only after the fact. At least we know who the shooter was and he will never harm anyone else.

WB -- Thank you for your concern.

Lettuce -- Awful, but we must move on and hope something positive like awareness can come from this terrible incident.

Wow, that's scary! Isn't it absurd that anyone, of any faith, needs a guard for their house of worship??

Way, way, too close for comfort, Barbara. So very glad you're all safe.
