A Thing of Beauty

I'm convinced that beauty is healing. Every time I look at this lovely plant, given to me by Gewels and Bulletholes, I feel better.

There is something very unique about orchids. It's almost as if the design on their petals is painted on. Their shape always reminds me of a lithe ballet dancer.

I love the fact that this one came decorated with matching pink ribbons. Isn't it spectacular in all its pinkness?

Karen -- No unfortunately my camera has not yet come in the mail. I borrowed my husband's camera and I don't know how to adjust lighting and critical things like that with it. Maybe tomorrow's mail...

I do love orchids-- I used to make special trips to The Burren (Ireland) to see the wild orchids in bloom. So delicate. It's the quiet delicate beauty that makes you want to keep gazing at the flower. It isn't a show-off, it's not crazy, it's quiet.

Here's hoping the camera arrives tomorrow! And what a sweet gift from your friends...

I laughed out loud as I read your comparison of the orchid to a lithe ballet dancer. My former spouse loved Rex Stout's "Nero Wolfe" detective series, the nominal protagonist of which was a brilliant, cranky, very portly, agoraphobic orchid-growing private detective who solved complicated crimes mostly from the armchair in his study. So to this day, when I think "orchid," that's the image I get! :-)

Anon -- The detective series sounds great. It's funny how we have such associations.

LOVED talking to you on the phone today. Almost as good as sipping tea together in person. Little by little we are filling in some critical pieces of our stories.

B

Barbara- So glad you liked the orchid. They happen to be one of my favorites too. So simple, yet so exotically beautiful.
Honestly, the pink ribbons were not my idea- but they are cheery.

Here's hoping you are healing well.
The girls send you lots of slobbery kisses and wet noses full of love too.

Yeah, I insisted on the pink, my favorite color.

I've heard of 'gilding the lily' but 'bowing the orchid'? Seems a bit distracting from the gorgeous orchid. That's just me. You enjoy!

Lacochran -- I think the bows are also meant to keep the orchid from flopping around. They actually look good, not obnoxious.
