Not this year
For as long as I can remember in Jake’s life, he has experienced untold itching in the month of August that has resulted in his chewing the hair off his stomach and back legs. He must have been in agony when this came on.
Before we left on our Thai adventure, I made sure to get the Rx for Medrol filled so his caretaker Sam wouldn’t have to see him be so miserable whenever the allergy presented itself. But upon our return, he handed us the unused bottle of Medrol and Jake still had all his beautiful yellow fur in tact.
Why was he spared this year? Is it the case that the culprit plant resides in our back yard and produces it’s oil/pollen during those particular weeks when Jake was at Camp Adams? Or is it the homemade dog food with its mix of supplements that has rendered Jake immune to the effects of this plant any longer? Hopefully we can put his allergy aside for this year and save the Rx for the next bout of itching.
Meanwhile he is the picture of contentment without an itch in sight!

Ah...what a gift for all!
Anon -- Yes, it is so nice to see him so peaceful. By this time most years he is a mess.
That is so great that he's itch-free this year. Maybe it is his new and improved diet. Our had a terrible problem with itching until we switched to a corn-free cat food. Apparently he was allergic to the corn based filler that is in a lot of cat foods.
I identify with Jake and the itching; though, I envy him the itch-free summer. I have not been so fortunate!
Your homemade dog food came up in Minnesota this summer and my sister's interested in learning more and making the same.
